Theoretical foundations of the understanding of architectural and urban modernist heritage

The series of lectures discussed the challenges of industrial and modernist cultural heritage, identified their specifics, and provided a set of contemporary international principles for treating these types of heritage. The issues of modernist architectural and urban planning heritage, in particular of Kharkiv (Ukraine) were considered. The potential of digital technologies in the preservation and management of cultural heritage sites is considered, the role of digital technologies in increasing public involvement and education about heritage sites was outlined.

The series of lectures discussed the challenges of industrial and modernist cultural heritage, in three thematic blocks: 1)"The architectural and urban environment heritage, the basic concepts, components and stages of development including international experience" described the directions of protection of the heritage and provides an understanding of the terms related to the work concerning thе heritage including international methods and instruments for dealing with built heritage; 2) "The most challenging types of built heritage. Contemporary international experience and methods of treatment of architectural and urban heritage", is devoted to industrial heritage as well as modernist heritage. Scientific-theoretical principles of industrial renewal were highlighted, as well as methods of redevelopment of industrial heritage; 3) "International experience in the treatment of architectural and urban heritage. The implementation of the experience in Ukraine," aims to reveal the development of the historic urban context through the application of urban planning tools, considering this as an example of the German experience, focusing on the possibilities of implementing this experience in Ukraine. The potential of digital technologies in the preservation and management of cultural heritage sites is considered, and the role of digital technologies in increasing public involvement and education about heritage sites is outlined. The experience of restoration in Lviv and other cities in Ukraine, using digital technologies, is also discussed.
