Seminar Metropol.x_Tallinn
Located on the Baltic Sea coast Tallinn is Estonias capital and with around 440,000 inhabitants most populous city of the country. The old town, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, stands for an extremely eventful city and national history. While early growth was driven by industrialization and defense, Tallinn is now considered a startup hub and one of the ten most digital cities in Europe. The task of the seminar is to explore this DNA through observing, mapping, critically evaluating and finally visualizing the various layers that formulate Tallinn, whether historical and demographical development, dwelling patterns, infrastructure, education and culture, architecturals styles, greenery, economy, lifestyle, tourism or visions of future development. The result, suggests a look into the contemporary city landscape of Tallinn, with readable illustrations, comments and critiques on the image of the Estonian capital. As a result, an atlas of Tallinn's contemporary urban landscape will be created and published.
