On 4 November 2025, CNUTR hosted an insightful online lecture by Professor Tauri Tuvikene (Urban Studies, Tallinn University’s School of Humanities). The session brought together Ukrainian students (from OSACEA, TSUK, O.M. Beketov NUUEKh, and KAI) and German students (from KIT) for a dynamic exchange focused on the urban transformations of Tallinn, with particular emphasis on urban activism, the fare-free public transport system, and changes in the port area.
Professor Tuvikene also explored the Soviet urban layer that continues to shape Tallinn’s structure and identity, using Lasnamäe as a key example to discuss resilience and urban inclusivity in post-socialist contexts. He further addressed perspectives for resilient development of large housing estates, connecting social and spatial dynamics with contemporary challenges in urban planning.
As Project Coordinator of EN-UTC CARIN-PT (Resilient and Inclusive Public Transport) and co-editor of “If Cars Could Walk: Postsocialist Streets in Transformation,” Professor Tuvikene shared his expertise on how mobility, history, and social change intersect in shaping resilient urban environments.
This online exchange underlined CNUTR’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and promoting knowledge exchange on sustainable and inclusive urban development across Europe.
