Lviv, founded in the late Middle Ages, flourished for centuries as an administrative, religious, and trade center, preserved its medieval urban topography, and expanded in many stages. The World Heritage Site of “L’viv – the Ensemble of the Historic Centre” is a unique example of an urban environment, a center of architectural and artistic masterpieces, whose uniqueness lies in the symbiosis of styles and traditions. The ensemble of the city center is protected by UNESCO and surrounded by a buffer zone with an area of more than two thousand hectares, where building rules and restrictions are applied. Over the years, Lviv has made significant strides in urban planning and development. The Integrated Concept of Development, a guiding document for architects, engineers, and deputies, has played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s priorities in various areas such as housing and transport, ecology, social and technical infrastructure, culture and education, tourism, public spaces, and the economy. Due to the war in Ukraine, there has been an increase in people relocating to Lviv, resulting in the city’s population reaching one million. This has led to significant development activity, necessitating a rethinking of the service infrastructure and public spaces. Innovative solutions for reconstruction and recovery of the city are in need.
